South African players have been equally dominant in the IPL like the Indian players. The Proteas stars have gained a massive fan following in India because of their exploits in the nation’s T20 league. Some of the biggest names of world cricket like AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Faf du Plessis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Imran Tahir, Hashim Amla and others had a great outing in the IPL.
A few of the aforementioned names are among the most-followed overseas cricketers in India. Virat Kohli once disclosed that during a match between India and South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in 2015, the crowd was chanting for AB de Villiers even though India was the home team.
However, not all the South African players have been as lucky as the names listed above. Some of them got to play only one match in their entire IPL career. In this listicle now, we will look at the two South African players who played only one game in the IPL.
1. One of the current South African players Junior Dala played only 1 match in IPL
Junior Dala came into the limelight after his good performance in his debut T20I series against the Indian cricket team at home in 2018. Dala earned a contract as a replacement for Chris Morris in the Delhi Daredevils squad that year and made his IPL debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The right-arm pacer had a forgettable debut as he went for 34 runs in his three overs. He failed to take a wicket as well, and the Delhi Daredevils did not retain him for the 2019 season.
2. Andre Nel
Former South African fast bowler Andre Nel played only one IPL match. It was for the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season against the Delhi Daredevils. Nel bowled a spell of 1/31 in three overs in that game.
