India and Australia are currently locking horns in the series-decider third ODI in Chennai. The visitors’ skipper Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first in what seems to be a good batting surface.
Australia was off the flyer as the duo of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head yet again took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park for their 68-run opening partnership. But Indian vice-captain Hardik Pandya acted as a barrier for Australia.
The all-rounder bowled a sensational spell of fast bowling and removed the three Australian batters in Head (31), Steve Smith (0) and Mitchell Marsh (47) to reduce them from 68/1 to 85/3. He tilted the momentum in his side’s favour and put them on the front foot.
While the competition between bat and ball had kept fans enthralled, one notable thing that has hogged the headlines is the absence of KL Rahul on the field. The keeper batter went off the field at the start of the 17th field and in his place, Ishan Kishan has been donning the keeping gloves. Although there’s no official confirmation why the keeper batter has gone off the field, it is speculated that due to hot and humid conditions, Rahul has taken some time off.
