India and Australia are currently locking horns in the third Test in Indore. The series is currently standing at 2-0 with the hosts in lead. If the Rohit Sharma-led side manages to win the ongoing third game they will book their berth for the World Test Championship Final. On the other hand, Australia seems a certainty in the final. If they draw or win one of the last two games against India, they will be through.
Here is what will happen if the Indore pitch is rated as “below average”
The ongoing third Test between India and Australia has come under scrutiny due to the type of pitch. The Indore pitch has received a fair amount of criticism for the amount of turn it has produced.
The ball started turning from the first few minutes of the play and the pitch has offered 4.9 degrees of turn, which is so far the most in the series. As per the reports in the PTI, it is learned that the Indore pitch is likely to get a “Below average” rating from ICC.

However, if that happens the Indore venue will get one demerit point. If the venue is rated as poor and unfit then the venue will get three and five demerit points respectively.
As per the ICC rules: “One demerit point will be awarded to venues whose pitches are rated by the match referees as below average, while three and five demerit points will be awarded to venues whose pitches are marked as poor and unfit, respectively.”
Australia is on the front seat in Indore against India
Australia is currently in the front seat in the ongoing third Test against Australia. Asked to bat first, they bundled out India for just 109 runs and then batted staggering well to take a lead of 90 runs.
They started the second innings on high with the ball and removed Shubman Gill early to put India under pressure. It remains to be seen who will be on the top after the end of the day’s play in Indore.
