2 Players Who Quit New Zealand Cricket And Moved To Another Nation For Better Opportunities

Share the post

New Zealand cricket team has become one of the strongest units in international cricket over the last few years. The Blackcaps finished runners-up in the 2015 and 2019 World Cup. They also made it to the final of the T20 World Cup 2021 and qualified for semifinals of T20 World Cup 2022. Besides, New Zealand captured the inaugural ICC World Test Championship trophy as well.

The payments of New Zealand Cricket (NZC) are top-notch as well, which is why the players born in South Africa often move to the Kiwis and don the Blackcaps jersey at the international level. Some of the best examples are Devon Conway, BJ Watling, Neil Wagner and Colin Munro.

However, the trend seems to be changing a bit. Earlier, players left their nation and came to New Zealand to play international cricket for the Blackcaps, but now the players are quitting the Kiwis team for better opportunities in another nation. Here’s a list of two such cricketers:

1. Corey Anderson retired from New Zealand cricket and moved to USA team

Corey Anderson grabbed the headlines by breaking the world record for the quickest ODI ton in terms of balls played. Anderson even earned an IPL deal from Mumbai Indians and played a once-in-a-lifetime innings against Rajasthan Royals. Later in his career, Anderson played for Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, as the years passed, Anderson’s performance declined. The hard-hitting all-rounder lost his place in the New Zealand team. Soon, he made up his mind to leave his country and move to the USA for better future.

2. Luke Georgeson

Luke Georgeson played U-19 cricket for New Zealand but later signed a contract with Cricket Ireland. Here’s what he said:

“Signing this contract will hopefully give me an opportunity to continue to do that and test myself on the international stage if I’m fortunate enough to get the chance.”
