The Indian Premier League is one of the most popular sports leagues in the world. In fact, the IPL is expected to soon overtake the likes of the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League in terms of valuation. Cricket might be confined to just a few countries, but the Indian fans alone are enough to give the IPL matches an enormous amount of viewership, and that is what has been happening in the Indian Premier League lately. In fact, according to the latest stat that has been released by the BCCI, the 2022 IPL final saw the highest attendance ever in an IPL match.
This is insane for the IPL and Indian cricket. This proves single-handedly that the IPL is not only the biggest T20 league in the world (compared to the BBL and PCL), but it is also the future of cricket. Many analysts and cricket experts think that in days to come, cricket will also become a franchise-dependent game just like cricket. This means that in the future, players will play mostly for their franchises and then get breaks for national duties.
While this might not be great news for the Indian National Cricket Team, just think about the kind of money this will fetch the Indian cricketers. India might create a monopoly in cricket. If cricket ends up being a more profitable sport than football, more and more sponsors will invest in it, and as India will be at the center of it, we might end up having a great economic advantage.
However, the attendance of the IPL 2022 final might also be courtesy of the Ahmedabad Stadium. The newly built Narendra Modi Stadium is currently the biggest cricket stadium in India, and it has an insane seating capacity. Thus, a huge number of people went to see the final as it featured the Gujarat Titans, the home team.
