Indian captain Rohit Sharma who is known for his painstaking attention to detail in terms of his captaincy, failed to bring the best out of himself as a captain and batsman in the second semi-final against England.
When Team India were in need of wickets, there wasn’t any spark from the bowling department. As a result, Team India ended up losing the game in a disappointing fashion.
Jos Buttler and Co humiliated Team India by winning the game by 10 wickets at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. India last won the T20 World Cup tournament in 2007 by beating Pakistan in the final.
Moreover, the last time when India came close to winning the trophy was back in the T20 World Cup 2014 edition. India lost to Sri Lanka in the final episode.
Rohit Sharma should continue to be the white-ball captain: Ravi Shastri
In the aftermath of India’s exit from the T20 World Cup, a senior BCCI official on the condition of anonymity said that there should be a separate captain for the ODI and T20I format.
Reports were also rife that Rohit Sharma is set to be sacked as T20I captain, paving away for Hardik Pandya to take over the captaincy duties in the shortest format. However, it’s not confirmed yet. Meanwhile, former India’s head coach Ravi Shastri added that Rohit Sharma should continue to be the white-ball captain, while speaking to Indian Express.
Shastri who possesses a truckload of experience about the game said that there should be only one white-ball captain for India. Since Rohit is already the T20I captain, he should remain as the white-ball captain according to Ravi Shastri.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has been rested for the upcoming tour of New Zealand and Hardik Pandya will lead the team for the three-match T20I series.
