New Zealand have been impeccable in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far. They lost only one out of their five matches in the Super 12 and that too was a close call against England. They started off their campaign on a high with a dominating display against the hosts Australia and have been unstoppable ever since.
The kiwis have been one of the powerhouses of cricket for quite some time now under their captain Kane Williamson across all formats. In fact, they have consistently been one of the most successful teams in World Cups. Their performance in this tournament was just another example of the same.
New Zealand finished the Super 12 as the table toppers of Group 1. However, it was a very close call. New Zealand, England and Australia all finished the Super 12 with 7 points (as many of the matches were called off due to rain) and New Zealand and England qualified due to a higher net run rate. Yet, New Zealand had been the better-performing side in the Group and them finishing at the top was well deserved.
They will now face Pakistan in the first semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 on 9th November at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Ahead of the semi-finals, New Zealand cricket have posted a group photo of their squad and it has gone viral on twitter in no time. We’ve got to accept that New Zealand have earned the tag of ‘Good boys of cricket’ and everyone loves them. They especially have a big fan following in India for some reason.
In the other semi-final, India will face England on 10th November at the Adelaide Oval. It is being predicted by many that ICC is setting up an India vs Pakistan final. However, if we observe purely based on performances, we deserve to see a New Zealand vs India final.
