The first match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the Sri Lankan cricket team and the Indian cricket team got underway earlier today at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium. Virat Kohli is playing his 100th Test, and he had a good partnership with a new number three batter Hanuma Vihari during the first innings.
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma called the coin toss right and decided to have a bat first. The two openers got the Indian side off to a good start but both Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma were dismissed before they could convert their starts into big scores for the team.
Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli batted in the number three and four positions. As mentioned ahead, Kohli is playing his 100th Test, whereas it is also the 100th first-class match for Vihari. A Twitter user pointed out this coincidence via the following tweet during their partnership in Mohali:
“The two Indian batters at the crease now are Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari. While Virat is playing his 100th Test match, Hanuma Vihari is playing his 100th First-Class match today,” the Twitter user wrote.

Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari had a 90-run partnership for the 3rd wicket
Kohli and Vihari united in the middle when the Indian cricket team’s score was 80/2. After that, the duo added 90 runs for the third wicket and took the score to 170. While Vihari managed to complete his first half-century in Tests on home soil, Kohli could not touch the 50-run mark.
Sri Lanka’s rising star Lasith Embuldeniya dismissed Kohli when he was batting on 45. After that, Vihari lost his wicket to Vishwa Fernando, but an incredible 96-run knock from Rishabh Pant ensured that the Indian team ended with 357/6 on the board at the end of Day 1 of the Test match.
