Twitter Reacts as the tickets for India-Pakistan T20 World Cup game sold out in five minutes

Tickets for the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan have already exhausted five minutes after going on sale for the general public on Monday, February 7. The marquee match is scheduled to take place on October 23 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The craze for India’s matches are high to the extent that even tickets for their second match against an unknown opponent at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 27 have been sold out. The tickets for the mega event were made available to the public on February 1 prior to which 200,000 tickets were already snapped.

Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in the WC last time

The last time when India and Pakistan met in Australia was back in 2015 during a World Cup match at the Adelaide Oval. Amidst political turmoil, the two teams haven’t taken part in bilateral affairs since 2013. The archrivals last locked horns in October 2021 during the T20 World Cup 2021 where Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in Dubai.

Even India’s match against South Africa on October 30 at the Perth Stadium is expected to witness close to 90,000 people. The tickets for the games on October 27 at the SCG have also been sold out. India are also scheduled to lock horns with Bangladesh on November 2 in Adelaide and a qualifier on November 6 at the MCG.

While tickets for children are priced at $5, the adults need to shell out $20. Michelle Enright, the tournament chief executive officer, confirmed that the ticket purchasers are mostly from Australia, but also sounded hopeful that the opening of borders will help outsiders to buy tickets as well.

“We know that so far our ticket purchasers are predominantly residing in Australia, so to have two match-days with General Ticket allocations all sold that feature India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and South Africa shows the passion for cricket from fans in those communities,” the CEO was quoted as saying.

The tournament is scheduled to get underway on Sunday, October 16. Sri Lanka and Namibia will lock horns in the first game at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong, followed by two qualifiers clashing at the same venue.
