RCB’s experiment with Faf du Plessis at the top of the order worked well for them in the last cycle. While they might target an Indian opener to have extra foreign bowling options, the franchise will still look to hire some overseas openers. This way, they could get to balance the squad based on the other acquisitions. On that note, here is the list of three overseas openers RCB could target in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) Jos Buttler
Last Mega Auctions, RCB went in for a veteran opener when everyone was expecting them to sign someone younger. It could be the case for the next cycle, too. Hence, Buttler is on this list.
Since the team also needs a captain, Buttler will be ideal for the role. He can be a captain for the next cycle just like Faf did the job in the last cycle. As a wicket-keeper, Jos ticks another box for the franchise, as well.
2) Jonny Bairstow
The English opener’s form in T20s may not be great at the moment. However, based on his skills and the raw power he generates, Bairstow will surely have takers for the next cycle. The fact that he can keep wickets will also help him.
RCB might resort to Bairstow if they do not get the preferred options. At Chinnaswamy Stadium, he could be a real deal, especially with his attacking approach in the powerplay. Hence, he is on this list.
3) Phil Salt
Phil Salt is one of the overseas openers RCB could target in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. There will be a rush to sign Salt in the upcoming Mega Auctions. He was in top form in IPL 2024 and was one of the main reasons why KKR did well in the league phase.
Considering the future of the outfit, he will be an ideal target for the side. He just has all the skills to make it work at the Chinnaswamy. Maybe, in the future, he could also be a worthy captaincy choice.
