Especially for games at home or in Asia, it looks like Virat Kohli is not the best option for India at No.4. Against spin, Virat has a lot of difficulties and it is high-time that India starts preparing for the inevitable. The time is right to invest in a player who can take up the No.4 role in the future. Shubman Gill is suited to No.3 and Rishabh Pant is better at No.5. Hence, the choices become limited. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three youngsters India must groom for the No.4 spot in Tests for the future.
1) Pradosh Ranjan Paul
The Tamil Nadu batter is technically strong and is in good form. He is young and would be perfect to take up the responsibility in the future.
For Tamil Nadu, he has already been doing well along with Baba Indrajith. For the latter, age is a factor and hence, Pradosh could be better suited.
2) Musheer Khan
Musheer Khan is one of the youngsters India must groom for the No.4 spot in Tests for the future. He is currently out of action but it is no doubt that soon, he will be a part of the Indian Team.
He can bat at multiple slots but the management must look at using him in the middle order. With his skills, he can ace this role after gaining some experience.
3) Dhruv Jurel
Yes, that is a bold call but can be a right one if it works out. With Rishabh Pant there, India does not need a wicket-keeper for the future. Hence, Dhruv Jurel could be the option as a pure batter.
He has the age and skills to develop himself for a role at No.4. If keeping duties are permanently with Pant, Jurel could focus better on his batting. Of course, he will always be the backup keeper. Hence, he is a top option.
