Rahul Dravid has joined Rajasthan Royals. It is a big boost for the side which is looking to win a trophy since IPL 2009. Dravid has coached many Indian stars and some of them whom he trained in the U19 squad have done well for themselves. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players whom Rahul Dravid coached in the U19 squad and might target for Rajasthan Royals.
1) K Khaleel Ahmed
It is not sure if RR will retain Trent Boult, who is suffering from a decline in form. Also, he is getting restricted to the powerplay overs and usually, more is expected from an overseas pacer.
Therefore, RR could try an Indian option for this role. If Delhi Capitals are not able to retain Khaleel, he would be a very good choice for the side. Dravid also seems to rate Khaleel Ahmed as he travelled for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Hence, he could be on the wishlist.
2) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is one of the players whom Rahul Dravid coached in the U19 squad and might target for Rajasthan Royals. RR is likely to release R Ashwin, mainly because of his age.
Despite his failures in the IPL, Dravid still trusted Sundar whenever there was a platform. Also, Sundar is the kind of player whom Dravid likes. To replace Ashwin, Dravid could make the decision to sign Sundar as he would be a long-term investment.
3) Sarfaraz Khan
While Sarfaraz Khan did not play in IPL 2024, he is likely to get some bids in IPL 2025 Auctions. He is good against spin, is an Indian player now and has experience in the IPL.
For RR, there might be one more good batter of spin whom the team needs in the middle order. Sarfaraz can do that job and with Dravid tutoring him, he could become even more useful. Hence, RR could target the Mumbai cricketer.
