It is hard to retain the same opening combination for the entirety of a season. However, till now, a few teams have managed it. It could be having a positive or a negative result but it is always a good sign when the management backs an opening combination. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams with unchanged opening combinations in IPL 2024 till now.
1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis)
After the terrible start that they had, it would have been easy for RCB to change this combination. However, they did not do that and this decision is paying dividends for them now.
Virat and Faf are two skilful players in the league. They could improve with their intent and that is something that they have been doing now. They are likely to finish this season as the openers.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders (Phil Salt and Sunil Narine)
KKR is one of the teams with unchanged opening combinations in IPL 2024 till now. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine have been brilliant for the franchise, so far. Before the season started, no one expected this opening combination for KKR.
However, Salt and Narine have been top-notch. They have been successful in giving strong starts to their side, which has helped them win games frequently.
3) Mumbai Indians (Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan)
Despite them not doing well together, MI has persisted with Rohit and Ishan as their opening combination for all the games till now. It also has to do with the fact that the management does not have a lot of options beyond this duo.
In the beginning, Rohit and Ishan showed signs of their best. However, they could not maintain it for long. The fans will expect them to, at least, finish the season on a strong note.
