Pakistan lost to Afghanistan on Monday. With this, the chances for the team to reach the semi-finals are looking bleak. However, they can still reach the last 4 if they win all of their remaining four games. It is very much possible but Pakistan might have to take some tough decisions if they have to reach there. Here, we take a look at two bold decisions Pakistan must take to get back to winning ways in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Drop Haris Rauf
Haris Rauf has been a disappointment in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Many expected him to have a good tournament but the player has not done well. While he has not picked enough wickets, he is also leaking a lot of runs.
Yes, he is a senior figure but the time might be up for him. Mohammad Wasim Jr is a talented cricketer and he deserves an opportunity. Pakistan does not have anything to lose and hence, they can try a player like Wasim. It will also be a good break for Haris.
2) Relieve Babar Azam of captaincy duties
Asking Babar Azam to step down as a captain is one of the bold decisions Pakistan must take to get back to winning ways in the 2023 ODI World Cup. It would be a very bold decision if the management could take it.
Babar is a brilliant batter but he is not firing these days. As a skipper, it is clear that he is not delivering his best. Sometimes, his field placements and bowling changes are not up to the mark. Also, his body language does not seem to inspire his mates. Considering all these factors, Pakistan could consider handing over the captaincy to someone like Rizwan or Shaheen for the remaining matches. Hence, this decision is also a part of this list.
