T20 cricket is called to be the easiest format for the batsmen to score runs in and dominate the bowlers. But, in reality when it comes to playing at the highest level, and that too in the T20 World Cup, there are only a few who are able to do it. So, here’s a look at the 6 best knocks in T20 World Cup.

 1. Yuvraj Singh, 58 runs off 16 balls India v England, 2007

The Indian Cricket Team had gotten off to a great start in this match against England, when the ‘Prince of Indian Cricket’ stepped onto the field and dismantled the English bowling line-up, single-handedly.

Before the fateful 19th over of the game, the one that would be written down in history, Yuvraj had 14 runs from 6 balls. Then he smoked Stuart Broad for six sixes of 6 deliveries and reached the fastest T20 fifty at the time, and one of the 6 best knocks in the T20 World Cup. To date, he remains to be one of the two batsmen to have hit six sixes in an over in T20Is.

2. Chris Gayle, 117 runs off 57 balls West Indies v South Africa, 2007

The inaugural edition of the apex T20I competition saw fireworks blaze from players of all sides. In the very first game of the tournament, Chris Gayle smacked the South African bowlers in all directions of the park and gave the South African bowlers, nightmares that would still haunt them today.

Batting at the Wanderers Cricket Ground, Gayle in the first innings of the match, hit 10 sixes and 7 fours en-route to his score of 177 runs off 57 deliveries. But, it did not end well for him though, as thanks to a heroic display of batting by Herschelle Gibbs, South Africa sailed to a win by a margin of 8 wickets.

3. Marlon Samuels, 78 runs off 56 balls West Indies v Sri Lanka, 2012

If the West Indian fans were to thank a player to have taken them to a win in the Finals of the World T20 in 2012, it would be no one else but Marlon Samuels and his knock of 78 runs off 56 balls in the match.

After a slow start to the innings of which, Marlon Samuels was a part of, the star all-rounder of the side decided to step up and accelerate the scoring rate of his team, taking on the likes of Lasith Malinga and other great bowlers who made up the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Thanks to his efforts that earned him a place in this list of the 6 greatest knocks in the T20 World Cup and made him the highest run-getter of the match, the West Indies got to a win in the all-important game and lifted the cup.

4. Mike Hussey, 60* runs off 24 balls Australia vs Pakistan, 2010

There are many few players in the class of Michael Hussey who get labelled as ‘an absolute freak’ after their inning in the shortest format at the game, and especially when the match is being played in the most important tournaments there is. But, when Hussey exploded on the Pakistani bowlers in St Lucia, he not only got that label from his captain post the match but also won an unwinnable encounter.

The chances of Australia’s win seemed pretty slim when the team needed 48 runs off 18 balls. And, this was when Hussey exploded in his full force and smacked the best of the Pakistani bowlers to literally all corners of the ground to lead his team to a win with a ball to spare, delivering what would be one of the 6 best knocks in T20 World Cup.

5. Carlos Brathwaite, 34 runs off 10 balls West Indies vs England, 2016

‘Carlos Brathwaite! Remember the name!’ these words echoed across the TV sets of cricket fans all over the world as the visuals of a dejected Ben Stokes and an ecstatic West Indies team flashed, as the West Indies cricket team lifted the T20 World Cup for the second time.

Chasing down a total of 155 runs set by the Englishmen, the West Indies cricket team seemed to have lost all of their hopes when the scoreboard indicated them needing 19 runs off 6 balls, with Marlon Samuels, the in-form batsmen on the non-striker’s end and Brathwaite, who would be the hero of the team, on the other end, with 10 runs to his name in 6 balls. But, what was about to follow was the total domination of Ben Stokes as he was smashed for 4 consecutive sixes in the final over, courtesy Carlos Brathwaite, as the Windies clutched a win in the tournament finals.

6. Brendon McCullum, 123 runs off 58 balls New Zealand v West Indies, 2012

There have been very few people who have hit a century in the T20 World Cup, and Brendon McCullum is one of them and this inning of his is definitely worthy of inclusion in this list of the 6 best knocks in the T20 World Cup.

Playing against Bangladesh in the 2012 edition of the tournament, McCullum, who till then had become known for his ability to hit the bowlers for fun, let all the ends loose on the unassuming Bangladesh bowling attack, as he smacked them for 7 sixes and 11 fours in total, on his way to a century knock which ended in him getting 123 runs off 58 balls and his team winning the match by a margin of 59 runs.
