“He’s got to be a must in that Indian line-up,” Adam Gilchrist chooses a definite pick in Indian XI between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik

Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist has named his first-choice wicket-keeping option in the Indian XI. He said that although both can play in the team Rishabh Pant needs to be a definite pick on the side.

Ever since Dinesh Karthik made a comeback in the Indian T20I side, Rishabh Pant has been under the scanner. The southpaw has failed to perform in the T20Is. But many have backed him and have raised calls to play him every time in the XI.

However, in the last few days, Rishabh Pant vs Dinesh Karthik debate has hogged the headlines. It’s fair to say that team management had also looked confused as in some matches they played the senior batter and in a few southpaws donned the keeping gloves.

In the Asia Cup, India started their campaign by playing Dinesh Karthik but Pant was back in the XI in the Super 4 stage. Now in the ongoing series against Australia, the senior batter for nod ahead of the left-hander and it remains to be seen who will play the next two games.

Adam Gilchrist feels that with the kind of courage and daring Pant has, he’s a must in Indian XI. Speaking to ICC, he said.

“The dare of Rishabh Pant and the courage for him, the way in which he takes on bowling attacks. I think he’s got to be a must in that Indian line-up. They can play together, but I think Rishabh Pant has definitely got to be in there.” He said.

Adam Gilchrist praises versatile batter Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik since his comeback has looked like a different batsman. He has provided the finish to the team in almost every match and has also bailed them out of trouble a few times.

Gilchrist suggested that India should try to play Pant and Karthik in the team. He lauded the senior Indian batter and said:

“It’ll be interesting to see if they can both play in the same team. I think they can. What they bring to a team… the versatility of Dinesh Karthik, he can play at the top of the order, he can, as he has done more so later in his career, be in the middle and late overs to finish. He has a really nice touch game,” he said.

Dinesh Karthik so far has played 51 T20I matches in which he has 598 runs at an average of 27.18 and a strike rate of 139.71 to his name.
