“What’s the point of playing a left-hander if he plays a reverse-sweep and gets out?”-Twitter reacts as Kapil Dev wants Rishabh Pant in place of Dinesh Karthik

The decision not to include Rishabh Pant in India’s playing eleven for either of their T20 World Cup matches has been the subject of much discussion. Dinesh Karthik replaced Pant as India’s wicketkeeper batter for their matches against Pakistan and South Africa, while Pant was left on the bench for both of those matches.

However, in light of Karthik’s shaky performance behind the stumps against the Netherlands, former India captain Kapil Dev thinks that Pant should be given a chance to play.

Karthik has been on a roll ever since the IPL 2022 for RCB, and from the time he made his India comeback, the 37-year-old veteran wicketkeeper has played certainly memorable knocks for India, on the way to becoming the team’s designated ‘finisher’ in the position.

Karthik, on the other hand, buckled under the increasing strain in the Pakistan game and made a number of blunders when keeping against the Netherlands. This is why Kapil wants DK replaced by Pant, while also pointing out how India might benefit from having a left-hander in the middle order.

“I want to say that since we have Rishabh Pant, now is the time India needs him. It felt as if Dinesh Karthik would get the job done, but factoring in the wicketkeeping as well, I feel that if India have that left-hander option in the team, this team would look complete,” Kapil said on ABP News.

In the thirty-first match of the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in Perth, India and South Africa will go head-to-head against each other.
