Indian Premier League, in a few seasons, will be two decades old. A lot of things have changed in the history of the competition. While teams have had a change in the personnel, the jersey also changes every season. At times, franchises have also taken the decision to drastically change the base colour of the jersey. This is a bold move because usually, teams will be changing the identity of the brand of the team. On that note, here, we take a look at five franchises that drastically changed the base colour of their jerseys in IPL history.
Note: We have not included teams such as Delhi Capitals, which had a colour change of the jersey after the change in ownership.
1) Deccan Chargers
Deccan Chargers is one of the franchises that drastically changed the base colour of their jerseys in IPL history. The Hyderabad-based outfit had one of the unique colours in the first edition. However, they changed the colour in the next season itself.
It became dark blue and it also brought luck with it. DC went on to win IPL 2009. By the time they bowed out of the competition, as well, the Deccan Chargers maintained the same colour for their uniform.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR had the coolest jersey for the first few seasons. They had a mix of black and gold, a combination that was an instant hit amongst the fans and the neutral viewers. However, for reasons not known, the team changed the colour of their jersey to violet.
While the team did win some trophies, the jersey is not rated among the best right now. If KKR can go back to its original colour, the move will be liked by many, especially the KKR fans.
3) Lucknow Super Giants
LSG is also one of the franchises that drastically changed the base colour of their jerseys in IPL history. When LSG introduced its first jersey, the colour met with mixed reactions. However, since it was different from the regular blue in the league, many fans started liking it.
However, within just one season, LSG changed the colour to dark blue. This was common in the league and now, LSG’s jersey does not stand out. It needs to be seen if the franchise would change this in the future.
4) Rajasthan Royals
When it comes to changing the colour of the jersey, Rajasthan Royals probably had the best move. They changed the colour from blue to pink.
While pink is in tune with Jaipur as the Pink City, the colour is also different compared to the other jerseys. Hence, it is looking fresh and even the stadium looks good when fans don the pink jersey.
5) Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings is also one of the franchises that drastically changed the base colour of their jerseys in IPL history. In the beginning, PBKS predominantly had a pink hue on the jersey.
At the moment, it is completely red. It looks like the old jersey of RCB. Hence, it is not unique and even some fans are against it.
