When it comes to releasing a player before an IPL mini-auction, it has to do more with the form of the player. Hence, in the subsequent auction, logically, the player has to earn less compared to what he was earning earlier. However, this logic is getting dismissed in almost every mini-auction. As much as a player’s value depends on his form, it is also dependent on the demand and supply of such cricketers. In the past, we have anyways seen one released player doing well in the other team in the next season itself. On that note, here, we take a look at four popular Indians who will earn more in IPL 2024 than IPL 2023 despite getting released.
1) Harshal Patel
INR 10.75 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 11.75 Cr in IPL 2024
Harshal Patel did not do well in IPL 2023. It had more to do with his suitability for the Chinnaswamy Stadium. With short boundaries and a flat track, Harshal was not able to pull off his variations consistently. Since he was earning a big salary, he had to be released from the outfit.
Considering his domestic form had not been extra-ordinary, it was expected that he would get sold but not for a big amount. However, he crossed his own personal record to sign for Punjab Kings. PBKS now has a solid death bowling contingent with the addition of Harshal.
2) Umesh Yadav
INR 2 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 5.8 Cr in IPL 2024
Umesh Yadav is one of the popular Indians who will earn more in IPL 2024 than IPL 2023 despite getting released. The Nagpur-based cricketer was playing at his base price for KKR in the last two seasons. However, he now has a hike of almost three times from IPL 2024.
With Hardik Pandya gone, GT needed an Indian name who could be used as a new-ball bowler. Hence, they went hard for Umesh Yadav, who is one of the best in the business in this area of the game. He would now share the new ball with Mohammed Shami in IPL 2024.
3) Jaydev Unadkat
INR 0.5 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 1.6 Cr in IPL 2024
Jaydev Unadkat had been playing for a low salary in the last few seasons. However, his salary would now be good in IPL 2024. He will represent the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
With Marco Jansen unlikely to play in the XI because of the arrival of Pat Cummins, SRH needed a new-ball partner for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hence, they hired Jaydev Unadkat. There were a few other teams that were interested in him. However, SRH sealed the signing at the end.
4) Shivam Mavi
INR 6 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 6.4 Cr in IPL 2024
Shivam Mavi is also one of the popular Indians who will earn more in IPL 2024 than IPL 2023 despite getting released. Mavi did not play a single game in IPL 2023. Yet, he saw his salary increase at the IPL 2024 Auctions.
With Avesh Khan traded, LSG needed a new-ball bowler. Hence, they went hard for Mavi, who was also needed by RCB. Mavi’s arrival now ensures some good overs in the powerplay for LSG and also some batting depth for the franchise.
