Indian Premier League Auctions could be strange at times. The dynamics are so complex that at times, it is better to stay away from analysing too much. While demand and supply is a known cause, sometimes, there are other factors hidden from the view of the audience that plays a role. Hence, a player who was predicted to earn a lot of money goes almost very close to his base price. Here, we take a look at four players who were sold for almost 5 times less salary than they were predicted to.
1) Kartik Tyagi – INR 0.6 Cr
Before the auctions, many felt that Kartik Tyagi would become one of the highest-paid uncapped players. However, the Uttar Pradesh pacer hardly moved ahead of his base price of INR 20 Lakhs.
While his fitness could be one of the reasons, the fact that he came very late into the auctions was also a factor. It needs to be seen how he will perform in IPL 2024.
2) Wanindu Hasaranga – INR 1.5 Cr
Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the players who were sold for almost 5 times less salary than they were predicted to. Considering he was the only premier spinner in the auctions, many expected him to fetch a bid close to what he got in IPL 2022.
However, Hasaranga was sold at his base price. His fitness and his form in the IPL might have been the reasons for nine teams not showing interest.
3) Rachin Ravindra – INR 1.8 Cr
Thanks to his performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rachin became a household name. He is an all-rounder and might have garnered a lot of interest.
However, in the T20 format, he is yet to fully showcase himself. Hence, Rachin did not get a lot of bids as he might have expected.
4) Tristan Stubbs – INR 0.5 Cr
Tristan Stubbs is also one of the players who were sold for almost 5 times less salary than they were predicted to. He is a talented player and in good form. A wicket-keeper who can finish games, he should have been in high demand.
However, Stubbs was sold at his base price. Delhi Capitals can consider themselves lucky that they got such a talented young player for such a low amount.
