The 2007 edition of the ICC 50-over World Cup was an eventful edition. While Australia went on to defend the title in West Indies, Team India got knocked out in the group stage itself. That performance had a massive impact on the future of Indian cricket. That event happened 15 years ago and interestingly, a few members part of that event are still active in the game. In fact, a few of them are even playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League. In this article, we take a look at four players who played in the 2007 50-over World Cup and are also playing in IPL 2022.

1) MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings

MS Dhoni was relatively new to the team but had already established his place in the XI thanks to his efforts in the previous months. Hence, he played three games in that tournament but could return with a total of only 29 runs. In two of those games, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni was out for zero.

In the same year, though, fortunes changed for Dhoni as he was appointed as the captain of the T20 squad for the first edition of the T20 World Cup. India managed to win the tournament that year. Of course, his IPL exploits are well-known and despite being over 40, he is still a part of the competition.

2) Dinesh Karthik – Royal Challengers Bangalore

Dinesh Karthik is one of the players who played in the 2007 50-over World Cup and is also playing in IPL 2022. The Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper had also made his debut at around the same time as MS Dhoni. However, he hardly got any chances with MSD there. For the event, DK went as the reserve wicket-keeper. The player, though, did not get a single game.

Nevertheless, DK is one of the highly-rated cricketers at the moment. He is currently playing in IPL 2022 and is in good form. There are chances that he could force a return to Team India.

3) Dwayne Bravo – Chennai Super Kings

Dwayne Bravo played for West Indies in that event that was actually hosted in his home nation. He was part of nine games but score a total of only 129 runs. Barring a 37* against Zimbabwe, he had no other knocks of mention. However, with the ball, he took 13 wickets and helped his team progress in the competition.

4) Robin Uthappa – Chennai Super Kings

Robin Uthappa is also one of the players who played in the 2007 50-over World Cup and is also playing in IPL 2022. A few months before the tournament, Robin had announced himself on the biggest stage with a few solid knocks. A youngster then, Robin was selected for the event and even got a chance in the playing XI for all three games. However, the Karnataka man could not set the scene on fire. He could manage a total of only 30 runs and could not help India in any of the games.
