2 players who might lose their spot in the World Cup squad if Jofra Archer miraculously gets fit in time

Jofra Archer will most likely not play in the 2023 ODI World Cup. It is a massive blow considering he was one of the main stars in the previous edition. However, the England management has not completely ruled out his return. If he can somehow come back to good fitness, he can still make it to the squad. On that note, here, we take a look at two players who might lose their spot in the World Cup squad if Jofra Archer miraculously gets fit in time.

1) Gus Atkinson

Despite not having played for England till now, Gus Atkinson made it to the squad. This is purely down to his potential and his attributes.

However, if Jofra would have to come back to the squad, it would be an easy decision for the selectors. Atkinson is anyway a big bet and it may not be a great surprise if he is replaced by Archer. Anyways, Atkinson can travel as a reserve.

2) David Willey

David Willey is one of the players who might lose their spot in the World Cup squad if Jofra Archer miraculously gets fit in time. In the first place, it was surprising to see Willey in the squad. Sam Curran cannot be dropped while Reece Topley is also important. It may not be very important to have a lot of depth in the pace-bowling department for a World Cup in India.

Considering these reasons, Willey might have to make way if Jofra Archer regains fitness. England anyways has similar players in the setup and may not miss Willey. Jofra is someone who can change the game within the space of few deliveries. On his day, he can take the game completely away from the opposition. Hence, he would be of prime importance to England if he is available for selection.
