The Indian Premier League is one of the biggest sports tournaments across the world. It is the dream of almost every cricketer to become a part of the IPL one day. One particular type of players who have always been in demand in the IPL are the ones who can score big runs in overs 16-20.
They are the death overs, where the batters try to take the maximum risks. The batters who gain the maximum rewards by smashing the most sixes are always in demand in the IPL. Speaking of death over specialists, here’s a list of four batters who have hit the most number of sixes in overs 16-20 in their IPL careers.
4. Rohit Sharma – 90 sixes in Overs 16-20
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma generally plays as an opener, but in the early phases of his career, he played as a middle-order batter. He has batted till the slog overs in 86 innings, where he has hit 90 sixes for Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians.
3. Kieron Pollard – 137 sixes in Overs 16-20
Kieron Pollard is another name from the Mumbai Indians team to feature on the list. The right-handed batter is one of the three batters to have smashed 100 sixes or more in the slog overs of the IPL.
2. AB de Villiers – 140 sixes
Former Royal Challengers Bangalore batter AB de Villiers is the second name on this list with 140 sixes to his name. Mr. 360 could have touched the 150-sixes milestone in the slog overs, but he has retired from all formats of cricket, including IPL.
1. MS Dhoni – 166 sixes
Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has batted 153 times in the final five overs and hit 166 balls out of the park. The wicket-keeper batter hit one of them tonight against the Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Avesh Khan at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Dhoni’s record is unlikely to be broken.
