For teams such as New Zealand, we are seeing IPL coaches such as Stephen Fleming join as short-term consultants. India might also need such support in the backroom. There are plenty who can do a good job in this regard. On that note, here, we take a look at three winners of the 2011 ODI WC whom BCCI must look to hire as a mentor for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan is one of the heroes of the 2011 ODI World Cup whom we do not talk a lot about. He was the leader of the bowling attack and did a fine job at it.
Zaheer picked wickets in the powerplay and also delivered whenever MS Dhoni wanted a wicket. This is something that the current Indian bowlers might have to do consistently. Although he is associated with Mumbai Indians, a short stint with the Indian Team will help the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah a lot.
2) Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra is one of the winners of the 2011 ODI WC whom BCCI must look to hire as a mentor for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Not many rated Nehra in the 2011 ODI WC but he responded with some under-rated performances.
Right now, he is a successful coach and all of this experience could be handy for the 15 members of the Indian Team. Hence, it’s worth a shout to have the Gujarat Titans Head Coach in the backroom staff for the Indian Team at the World Cup.
3) Yuvraj Singh
Yuvi was the Man of the Series in the 2011 ODI World Cup. He was in poor form before the event but was at the centre of India’s stunning show at the mega-event.
Many of the current Indian players are also in a similar situation right now. Having Yuvi provide inputs and motivate them might be a great factor in the dressing room. Hence, we also have the Punjab all-rounder on this list.
