If a batter has one bad season, he might not find a place in the subsequent edition. With new youngsters coming through in every campaign, the margin for failure is very narrow for the veteran cricketers. Especially with a mega auction around, it further gets hard for them. On that note, here, we take a look at three veteran Indian batters who could go unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions if they fail in IPL 2024.
1) Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal has been struggling in the ongoing edition of IPL. Firstly, it was a surprise that SRH chose to retain him. May be, considering his experience, Mayank would have got one more chance. However, it could get difficult for him in the coming seasons.
His recent change in technique has not allowed him to be consistent. Mayank is struggling against spinners, too, which is a big problem for him. Hence, he needs to pick up or his IPL career could be nearing a halt.
2) Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is one of the veteran Indian batters who could go unsold in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions if they fail in IPL 2024. If not for his season at CSK in IPL 2023, he would have been released and probably no other team would have picked him.
Considering he had a disappointing domestic season, Rahane could struggle to find a bidder if he fails in IPL 2024. He has started decently but that fluency seems to be lacking. However, at CSK, he shall be backed still he comes good.
3) Shikhar Dhawan
He might have started well but Shikhar’s strike-rate is a big concern. Considering his age and the fact that he hardly plays domestic cricket, teams could be skeptical about picking him at a mega auction.
However, if Shikhar turns his campaign around with some impact runs, he could easily get one more gig in the IPL. He is a quality player and could make that happen.
