It will be a shock if RCB retain Faf du Plessis for the next campaign. He would be 40 by then and it would not make sense to have such an old captain. Hence, RCB will be in the market for their new skipper. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three under-rated options RCB can target as the next captain for IPL 2025.
Note: We have considered players who are likely to be released by their respective franchises.
1) Aiden Markram
Aiden Markram has won two titles in the SA20 league on the trot. However, in the IPL, he had a terrible season as a skipper. Soon, he was replaced and Pat Cummins had a fine run.
Now, Markram is likely to be released. For RCB, he could be a good option, especially considering the age-factor. He could play as an opener or in the middle-order. He is someone who can control the innings in the middle-order and that would help the side.
2) Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana is one of the options RCB can target as the next captain for IPL 2025. On any day, having an Indian skipper adds a lot of advantages to the side.
Nitish may not be retained by KKR because as per reports, only 3 retentions could be allowed. In this regard, RCB can target Nitish as the new captain. Yes, he is inexperienced but there are not many suitable options available in the market, as well.
3) Sam Curran
Sam Curran, despite captaining Punjab Kings recently, might still be released by the franchise. He would be a good target for many teams.
For RCB, Sam would add balance as a cricketer. At the same time, he can be a skipper. He has IPL experience and that helps his case. That said, this would be a risky choice for the franchise.
