India’s series defeat to Sri Lanka in the ODI series is a warning call for Gautam Gambhir. While the immediate priority is the Champions Trophy, he must also have an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three uncapped ODI players whom India must try in the next tournament.
1) Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the uncapped ODI players whom India must try in the next tournament. It is surprising to note that despite his heroics in the other two formats of the game, Yashashvi Jaiswal is yet to play an ODI game for the Indian Cricket Team.
He plays both T20Is and Tests well and hence, cracking the ODI format should not be a big issue for him. His presence could also keep Shubman Gill aware of the situation. Plus, India would get a good left-hander and a spin basher in the top-order.
2) Dhruv Jurel
Both Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul could not make the best out of the chances given against Sri Lanka. At times, with the bat, both these players could be shaky. Hence, it is key to identify a future wicket-keeper and back him from now.
Dhruv Jurel is the perfect choice in this regard. It appears that he has already nailed the spot as the backup wicket-keeper in Tests. If he can do well in ODIs, he will make the spot his own, as well.
3) Nitish Reddy
It would be a good idea to test Nitish Reddy in the coming tournaments. The young all-rounder can be a good backup for Hardik Pandya and could also replace him in the future.
It will be key to groom Nitish at the correct slot in the playing XI. He is a batting all-rounder and India would need him to operate in the middle-order while also providing quite a few overs of medium-pace.
