India suffered a shock ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka. It was a big wake-up call for Team India ahead of the Champions Trophy next year. Although the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 is set to happen, India can also consider rewarding the performers from the last edition. 1) Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal scored 465 runs in 5 games at an average of 155 and a strike rate of 120 for Karnataka in the VHT 2023 edition. It was one of the main reasons why he got to make his Test debut.
ODIs seem to be a good format for the player. He usually takes some time to settle and ODIs allow him to do that. Especially on flat tracks, with his long levers, DDP can be useful both against spin and pace.
2) Rahul Tewatia
Rahul Tewatia is one of the top performers in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 whom India must consider giving an ODI debut. The Haryana man did well in both departments. He scored 352 runs at an average of 176 and a strike rate of 131 along with taking 15 wickets.
Gautam Gambhir could like such a player. As seen already, he prefers multi-dimensional cricketers. Tewatia also has a great mindset and usually does well under pressure. This could suit the requirement for Team India in the lower middle-order.
3) R Sai Kishore
The Tamil Nadu spinner picked 9 wickets in 8 matches at an economy of under 4. This was a remarkable show and on top of this, he also picked the most wickets in the Ranji Trophy.
India already has Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja in the ODI scheme of things. However, they could consider Sai, especially because of his current form and also to plan for the future.
