On a fiery surface at Perth Stadium, Australia’s chances of successfully defending their Twenty20 World Cup championship were kept alive because of the incredible assault of Marcus Stoinis.
It was not the most convincing victory since the Sri Lankans were in the hunt for most of the match, but a devastating Stoinis blitz (59 not out from 18 balls) put the game to bed as the Australians chased down 158 with 21 balls to spare.
However, the Australian bowling attack could have ensured a bigger boost to their net run rate had they been able to stop the big hitter Charith Asalanka (38 off 25) in a late cameo. The Australians displayed incredible striking as they viciously attacked Wanindu Hasaranga (0-53 from three overs), in particular. Thus in return, Wanindu Hasaranga for the first time in history has conceded more than 50 runs in his spell in a T20I match. He conceded that in the first 17 deliveries
