It will be interesting to see the approach each team takes before the retentions. The deadline is on October 31st. A few teams could play it safe while a few franchise could decide to go bold and build a squad at the auctions. Here, we take a look at the list of three teams which might not take any risks before IPL 2025 Retentions.
1) Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians might be forced to take some risks before the retentions. However, as per various reports, it looks like they are securing the core of the squad even before the auctions.
MI has a strong domestic core, which no other team has. The only battle is the captaincy. If the management can clarify that, it will be an easy decision for them. Tilak Varma could be the fifth player to be retained by the side.
2) Royal Challengers Bengaluru
RCB is one of the teams which might not take any risks before IPL 2025 Retentions. In the past, RCB has put most of their squad members in the auctions in a bid to start afresh. However, it never worked.
That said, the team has a decent core now and the likes of Andy Flower could decide to play it safe. Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal form a decent core and the franchise could decide to build around this core.
3) Sunrisers Hyderabad
As per reports, SRH is very much interested in retaining its overseas core. They could have considered using the RTM Card for Pat Cummins. However, that may not happen now.
Even Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy, who made their India debuts only recently, could be retained by the side to avoid any surprises in the auctions. It is a good approach but the management must keep in mind that both Abhishek and Nitish are still very young.
