IPL has shocked many franchises with the kind of retention rules they have announced for IPL 2025. Now, if more than three players have to be retained, franchises will have to shell out extra money when compared with the previous editions. Only retaining an uncapped cricketer could offer some benefits. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams which could have the least purse for IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians have the chance to retain five capped domestic cricketers. However, they will have to reserve close to INR 70 Crores for this. MI might go with it as this is their best option to retain their core.
If players such as Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma and Jasprit Bumrah go under the hammer, there is no way MI can buy them all again. Hence, MI could take the risk of going to the auctions with less purse but quality cricketers.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR is one of the teams which could have the least purse for IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. KKR is in a tricky situation at the moment. There are some aged cricketers but they are necessary for the balance of the squad. Eventually, all could be retained.
Shreyas Iyer, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun CV and Rinku Singh all are needed for KKR. If Harshit Rana is capped, that would again cause another issue for the franchise. Hence, KKR could retain as many as possible and proceed with less money.
3) Rajasthan Royals
Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag are non-negotiables for the franchise. This would require above INR 40 Crores for the franchise.
Now, considering the loyalty factor, RR could retain Jos Buttler, as well. This will make the purse reduce by INR 18 Cr. Next up, the likes of Trent Boult and Shimron Hetmyer could also be in the fray. Hence, RR could end up using all their five capped retentions.
