Aiden Markram could not deliver his best as a skipper and batter in IPL 2023. Sunrisers Hyderabad might consider replacing him. At times, he looked out of ideas and control. Yes, a lot would depend on SA20 but the management may already have some options in mind. Here, we take a look at three surprising candidates who can replace Aiden Markram as SRH captain for IPL 2024.
1) Heinrich Klaasen
The South African wicket-keeper is in the form of his life. While he set the stage on fire in IPL 2023, he is continuing to do so in MLC 2023. Not many remember that Klaasen was once seen as a future captain of South Africa. He also led the side in 7 T20I games.
Considering he is undroppable right now, SRH could consider offering Klaasen the captaincy. If it works out, it would be a great deal of balance added to the squad.
2) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is one of the surprising candidates who can replace Aiden Markram as SRH captain for IPL 2024. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder has his injury issues but there are no doubts about his potential.
Someone has to figure out the right batting spot for him. This could go a long way in also fixing his bowling form. Maybe, appointing him as a skipper could help in this regard.
3) Abhishek Sharma
If there is one youngster who is set for the future in SRH, that happens to be Abhishek Sharma. The 22-year-old is a genuine opener and a useful spinner.
He might be too young for captaincy but this could be a good time for SRH to invest in him. It would be a bold call but it would be a positive one. If this clicks, SRH would have almost the next few seasons sorted, at least, when it comes to the captaincy area.
