3 reasons why Gautam Gambhir could make major changes for the second Test against Bangladesh

India cruised to a fine win against Bangladesh in Chennai. Although there were initial scares, the men in blue managed to come out triumphant. Despite the win, we could see Gautam Gambhir make a few changes before the next game at Kanpur. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three reasons why Gautam Gambhir could make major changes for the second Test against Bangladesh.

1) A bigger challenge for the players

It could be a good idea to expose some of the players who have remained on the bench to get an opportunity against Bangladesh. This could work in two ways.

Firstly, these players could get a chance. Next up, the other core members will be given a challenge to play with a new set of players on the field. All of this will help in the long run.

2) Workload management

Workload management is one of the reasons why Gautam Gambhir could make major changes for the second Test against Bangladesh. Had it not been for Bangladesh’s victory against Pakistan, Jasprit Bumrah might not have even been in the squad for this series.

Nevertheless, now that India won the first game, it could be an opportunity to rest a few players. Some tough challenges are up ahead and it is important for the squad to remain fit and fresh. Hence, we could even see someone from the batting unit get rested.

3) Build depth against a relatively easier opposition

India could use this chance to have better depth in the Test format. They already have a decent depth and the Kanpur Test could allow further experiments.

For instance, it could be a good idea to have Yash Dayal for the second Test. India could finally Test a left-arm seamer keeping the future in mind. Also, one of Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav could also get an opportunity.
