Quinton de Kock will retire from ODIs after the 2023 ODI World Cup. While Reeze Hendricks will get more chances, South Africa must also plan for the future. Therefore, there might be someone who will be groomed right away for this role. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could replace Quinton de Kock in the South African ODI XI once he retires after the World Cup.
1) Janneman Malan
Janneman Malan had attained a good reputation in the ODI format. However, the last few months were not great for him. Hence, he was dropped from the setup.
Considering he is just 27 years old, Malan might be backed for the future. He will have a very narrow window for failure but if he can get back his previous form, Malan can cement his position at the top.
2) Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis is one of the players who could replace Quinton de Kock in the South African ODI XI once he retires after the World Cup. He might be more suited to the middle-order but it will not be a surprise if he starts to open the batting for South Africa.
There is no better investment that can be done on a youngster than on Dewald Brevis. He is a superstar in the making and just needs the right backing to realize his full potential. Brevis is firmly able to do that and he might not even need a lot of time. Hence, he is on this list.
3) Ryan Rickelton
Ryan Rickelton is a decent option at the top of the order for South Africa. He would be a more like-to-like replacement, especially when it comes to the attributes.
However, his career has not started in the desired way, so far. But, the South African management will be expected to back the player further.
