In the past, we have seen several players getting a break in IPL captaincy. Sometimes it is forced and sometimes, it happens due to other reasons. Many have found success after a break in IPL captaincy. Shreyas Iyer is the most recent example of this. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who could captain in IPL 2025 after a break in captaincy.
1) Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma did not lead Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. It was Hardik Pandya who led the side. However, there are now reports that Rohit could be left out of Mumbai Indians for the next season.
There are quite a few teams such as LSG and Punjab Kings who could want to appoint new skippers. Rohit will be a luxury for such teams. Hence, the Hitman could be back as a skipper.
2) Aiden Markram
Aiden Markram is one of the players who could captain in IPL 2025 after a break in captaincy. It was more due to his batting inconsistency that Markram lost his captaincy to Pat Cummins before IPL 2024.
He is an experienced skipper and has also won a few trophies in the SA20 League. Therefore, if some franchise wants a long-term captaincy option, they could consider the name of Aiden Markram. Faf du Plessis could be released by RCB and Aiden could be a suitable replacement for him.
3) Nitish Rana
Nitish Rana led KKR in the absence of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2024. He did a decent job, especially because he was very new to the role.
Now, since he could be released by KKR, a few teams could target him as the new captain. Nitish adds a lot of value as a player. A domestic skipper is always an advantage. Therefore, Nitish can be the subject of attention for a few teams.
