With the solid Indian batting core at Mumbai Indians, the franchise can field as many as three foreign bowlers. In this regard, many expected them to go after a spinner. This is because the spin department is one of the weaknesses of the squad. However, the only player whom MI selected in this category is Mohammad Nabi. The Afghan is not in great form and the age is also not on his side. There were other options that Mumbai could have used. Here, we take a look at the list of three players MI must have picked instead of Mohammad Nabi.
1) Michael Bracewell
Assuming he will be fit for IPL 2024, the Kiwi all-rounder would have been a fine fit for Mumbai Indians. He could have slotted in at multiple batting positions.
With the ball, he can be wily and can collect some crucial wickets. Hence, he might have been a better option than Mohammad Nabi.
2) Adil Rashid
Piyush Chawla and Shreyas Gopal are the leg-spin options for Mumbai right now. At venues such as Chennai and Lucknow, they would have liked one more experienced option in this department.
Considering MI can afford to have one overseas spinner in the XI, they could have gone for Adil Rashid. He is someone who can also bowl in the powerplay.
3) Akeal Hosein
Akeal Hosein is one of the players MI must have picked instead of Mohammad Nabi. While Kumar Kartikeya is a left-arm spinner, he is not a traditional one. There is some mystery element and at times, he also bowls wrist-spin.
A good left-arm off-spinner is a must in every T20 squad. Mumbai does not have an experienced name here. Hence, they could have gone for Akeal Hosein. He would have also added depth to the side. It was a surprise that Mumbai did not go for a player like him.
