Gujarat Titans surprised the fans by winning the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. After the IPL 2022 Mega Auction ended, not many members of the cricket universe would have predicted GT to win the championship. But playing under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, GT used their resources to the maximum and won their first trophy in their debut season.
Most of the players performed exceptionally well for the Ahmedabad-based franchise, but there were some names who failed to match the expectations. GT may look to free up spots in their squad by releasing them ahead of the next auction. In this listicle, we will look at the three names Gujarat Titans may release before IPL 2023.
1. Gujarat Titans may release Matthew Wade ahead of IPL 2023
Gujarat Titans signed veteran Australian wicket-keeper batter Matthew Wade in the unsold round of the mega auction. GT backed Wade to come off good and gave him 10 matches in the season. However, the left-handed batter could not play even one big knock for his new franchise.
Wade scored 157 runs at a disappointing average of 15.70 despite batting in the top-order in all the innings.
2. Gujarat Titans may release Varun Aaron ahead of IPL 2023
Varun Aaron was a part of GT’s first playing XI in their debut match against the Lucknow Super Giants. Aaron bowled five overs in two matches before getting injured. He took a couple of wickets, but his economy rate was more than 10 runs per over. Since he is injury-prone, GT may look for another option.
3. Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar received a golden chance to bat at number three for Gujarat. He always desired to bat in the top-order, but in four matches this season, he scored only 19 runs at an average of 4.75. It will be interesting to see if the Titans retain him for the next season.
