3 most shocking retentions before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions

Share the post

All the IPL franchises announced the list of players whom they have retained before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. Usually, this event will be met with a few shocking decisions. It was the same yet again. There are a lot of decisions that happen in the backend. Hence, we cannot derive the background for each of these calls. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of the three most shocking retentions before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.

1) Shahrukh Khan – INR 4 Cr

While he was decent last year, for Punjab Kings, Shahrukh Khan was not excellent. It has been a few years for him in the IPL but he is yet to do really well. Hence, it was surprising to see GT persist with him for this fee.

At least Abhinav Manohar could have been a better bet because against spinners, he is surely going to be a top batter. Shahrukh Khan, though, will be pleased with this move. He will now get consistent opportunities and that could help him become the best version of himself in the team.

2) Dhruv Jurel – INR 14 Cr

Dhruv Jurel is one of the most shocking retentions before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. For a player who is yet to actually prove himself in the IPL, it is actually a very big amount to reserve. Especially since RR did not have to retain a wicket-keeper, this decision is even more shocking.

You can tell that Rahul Dravid would have been a factor in Dhruv Jurel accepting this retention. Dhruv is a top batter and one for the future. Hence, it appears that RR has placed too much trust in him.

3) Shimron Hetmyer – INR 11 Cr

For both Dhruv and Shimron Hetmyer combined, RR spent INR 32 Cr worth of pot, although the salary was distributed between the others. Hence, the decision by RR is a bit surprising.

Surely, RR could have got Shimron at a similar amount at the auctions or could have had other alternatives. They will hope that the West Indian lives up to the expectations in the coming days.
