BCCI has already announced the squad for Asia Cup 2023. If not for injury or severe form issues, India might stick with the same squad for the ODI WC. Of course, there would be a few players who would come in as standbys and net bowlers to further help the team. Interestingly, a few players who were a part of the 2020 U19 World Cup might also be involved in the upcoming mega-event. Here, we take a look at three Indians who played in the 2020 U19 World Cup and might be involved in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma is yet to make his ODI debut but has already earned a spot in the Asia Cup 2023 squad. If any injuries arise, he would be on course for a spot in the World Cup.
He is a talented cricketer and would add value to the Indian middle-order. Since he can also offer a few overs of off-spin, his inclusion will add balance to the setup.
2) Yashasvi Jaiswal – Standby List
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the Indians who played in the 2020 U19 World Cup and might be involved in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Yes, he has been selected for Asian Games 2023 but Jaiswal stands a chance to be on the standby list.
Currently, Ishan Kishan is the only reserve opener in the setup. If he is made to bat in the middle-order, there might be a requirement at the top. Hence, Jaiswal could stand a chance here.
3) Ravi Bishnoi – Standby List
Just like Jaiswal, even Ravi Bishnoi might get an opportunity to be around the ODI World Cup squad. In fact, he has recently returned to the Indian Team.
Yuzvendra Chahal is set to get the first preference. However, there might be a need for an extra spinner in the travelling squad. Indian batters have a few problems against spin and Bishnoi could help them prepare better.
