Considering the competition for spots in the Indian Team, having a second skill is now important for youngsters. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Indians who must work on their secondary skill to cement their spot in the Indian Team.
1) Yashasvi Jaiswal – Leg-Spin
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s biggest competitor is now Abhishek Sharma. It needs to be noted that Abhishek is a good left-arm spinner and bowls often. Hence, Jaiswal is losing out on the advantage now.
However, Jaiswal has a chance himself to get the edge. He has bowled a lot of leg-spin at the junior level and has also tried it in the IPL. However, he does not do it often. A part-time leg-spinner is rare and if Jaiswal can work on his bowling, he could be preferred ahead of Abhishek.
2) Ruturaj Gaikwad – Wicket-keeping
Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the Indians who must work on their secondary skill to cement their spot in the Indian Team. India does have a lot of wicket-keeping options. However, if there is a batter who can offer this as a secondary skill, he might be inclined to get a spot in the team.
KL Rahul took advantage of this and Ruturaj can do that, as well. Rutu kept wickets in the recent Maharashtra T20 League. If he can do that in IPL, as well, CSK will benefit a lot.
3) Tilak Varma – Off-Spin
It is not sure if it is an injury issue but it is a surprise that Tilak Varma was not in the squad for the Zimbabwe series. That said, it is now even harder for him to get into the squad.
Nevertheless, it is always rare to find a good left-handed batter against spin. Tilak is one of them. He is also a decent right-arm off-spinner. However, he hardly bowls now. Considering the competition for spots, it is better for him to work more on his bowling.
