It is not a secret that IPL performances go a long way in deciding the composition of Team India. Hence, with the World Cup happening in 2023, IPL 2023 was an important event for many cricketers. In fact, some of them could have even been selected for the event if they had a good run in IPL 2023. On that note, here, we take a look at three Indians who could have been selected for the World Cup if they did well in IPL 2023.

1) Deepak Hooda – 84 runs in IPL 2023

With KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer injured, India tried many options in the middle-order. However, none of these batters could bowl. If Deepak Hooda was in good form, since he can also offer a few overs with the ball, he could have got a higher backing.

However, Deepak had a poor IPL 2023 and hence, he lost out on this opportunity. India needs batting all-rounders to excel in the white-ball formats. Hooda could have thrown his hat for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Now, he would take part in the Asian Games as a player on the standby list.

2) Washington Sundar – 3 wickets in IPL 2023

Washington Sundar is one of the Indians who could have been selected for the World Cup if they did well in IPL 2023. India will not have an off-spinner for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

A few months ago, many felt Sundar was going to be important for a World Cup happening in India. However, Sundar faced severe form and fitness issues. Had he had a good tournament, India could have included him as the spin-bowling all-rounder.

3) Umran Malik – 5 wickets in IPL 2023

Umran Malik was one of the first names on the Indian Team list, at least in T20Is, before IPL 2023. However, the tournament did not end well for him.

Umran’s confidence dropped and he has not been able to leave a mark since then. An X-Factor cricketer, he could have at least been on the standby list if he did well in IPL 2023.
