Pat Cummins has been brilliant in the ongoing IPL 2024. Although his last few IPL campaigns were not great, he has been contributing to all the departments of the game in IPL 2024. It is no surprise that he went for a sum beyond INR 20 Cr at the auctions. A few other teams were also interested. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three franchises which targeted Pat Cummins before SRH signed him in IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru
RCB, despite having a purse close to just above INR 21 Cr, still went until INR 20 Cr for the services of Pat Cummins. That shows the confidence they had in his skills.
Had Cummins been in RCB in IPL 2024, the team would have been in better shape. The bowling would have done well and the lower-order batting would have got some more support.
2) Chennai Super Kings
CSK was one of the first teams to be interested in Pat Cummins. A player like Cummins would have been successful on the track at Chepauk.
Also, CSK would have got a good captaincy choice in the form of Cummins. Ruturaj Gaikwad was only appointed as the skipper before the season started. If Cummins was in the team, the choice might have been different by the CSK management.
3) Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians is one of the franchises which targeted Pat Cummins before SRH signed him in IPL 2024 Auctions. The foreign bowlers of Mumbai Indians did not step up in IPL 2024. Hence, it was not a surprise that MI had actually thought of an experienced player like Cummins.
Yes, Cummins with the ball would have found some difficulties in Mumbai. However, bowling alongside Bumrah, he could have used the pressure built by him to get more wickets for the team. That said, MI bowed out of the bidding war soon.
