Usually, Chennai Super Kings does not buy back a player after they have released him. In the case of Shardul Thakur recently or M Vijay a few years ago, there have been some exceptions. Nevertheless, CSK would want to target some of their former players in the coming auction. This would strengthen their squad. Here, we take a look at the list of three former players CSK could target in IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) R Ashwin
With Moeen Ali likely to be released, CSK would need a good off-spinner. Yes, Ashwin might not fit the profile from an age perspective but it needs to be noted that he can still serve two or three more years in the IPL.
He knows the Chepauk pitch very well and will also add value with the bat. Ashwin has played for CSK before and the fans will also be excited to have him in the squad. Hence, CSK could target him.
2) R Sai Kishore
R Sai Kishore is one of the former players CSK could target in IPL 2025 Auctions. The Tamil Nadu spinner was a part of the CSK setup a few years ago. However, he did not get any opportunity to showcase his skills. Now, he is a wily spinner and has also played for India.
Ravindra Jadeja will be retained but CSK will want to prepare a long-term replacement, as well. Anyways, having two similar spinners at Chepauk is not always a bad thing. The management will also want Sai to improve his batting skills to add further value to the team.
3) Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood missed IPL 2024 due to personal reasons. On hindsight, he would have been the perfect partner for Matheesha Pathirana.
Hazlewood is 33 and may not offer a lot. However, if managed well, he can be an excellent contributor. As the second overseas pacer, he would be a top recruit.
