IPL is a great stepping stone for cricketers to get a chance in Team India. At the same time, the tournament offers different nations the chance to test a few of their players at the highest level. Usually, established foreigners only get a chance in IPL. However, at times, young and exciting ones also get opportunities. IPL 2022 has seen a few lesser-established foreign players do well. These cricketers might as well get a chance in their national teams. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three foreign cricketers who could play for their respective nations in the 2022 T20 WC courtesy of their IPL 2022 stint.
1) Dewald Brevis (Mumbai Indians) – South Africa
Although Dewald Brevis is extremely raw at the moment, for Mumbai Indians, the teenager has shown flashes of excellence. We could say that he has proved that he belongs here already. Especially, in the 49(25) knock against Punjab Kings, Dewald surprised all with his bravery.
Brevis has an array of shots in his armory and it may not be a bad idea for South Africa to speed up his entry to the senior squad. If the management can ask him to be his fearless self, they will have a skilled batter to take the field in the T20 World Cup later this year.
2) Marco Jansen (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – South Africa
Marco Jansen is one of the cricketers who could play for their respective nations in the 2022 T20 WC courtesy of their IPL 2022 stint. While the tall left-arm pacer has cemented his place in the South African Test squad, he is now targeting to become an all-format cricketer.
His stint, so far, with SRH, has helped him to an extent. Especially in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the youngster collected three wickets and triggered the collapse for them. In other games, too, he was economical. Considering he can also offer batting services, Jansen will form a good attack with the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje in Australia and add batting depth at the same time.
3) Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Punjab Kings) – Sri Lanka
In the T20I tournaments that Sri Lanka has played this year, Bhanuka Rajapaksa was excluded from the team. There are numerous controversies surrounding him. The player had also announced his retirement and then took it back.
However, for PBKS, the left-hander has been in good form. In the first two games, he recorded scores of 43 (22) and 31 (9) for the franchise. Considering he is doing well, Sri Lanka might as well try to bring him back into the scheme of things.
