The English players dominated at Punjab Kings in the recent years. While Aussies could dominate now under Ricky Ponting, a few good Englishmen could also be the subject of attention. Here, we take a look at the list of three English cricketers who can replace Shikhar Dhawan as the captain of the Punjab Kings.

1) Ben Stokes
It would be stunning to see the combination of Ricky Ponting and Ben Stokes lead the way for Punjab Kings. It is a strong duo and could do well for the franchise.
Of course, a lot depends on Stokes’ fitness and availability. Ricky Ponting must also sanction the decision. If Stokes is fully committed, he will surely be a captaincy candidate for quite a few teams in IPL 2025.
2) Sam Curran
Sam Curran is one of the English cricketers who can replace Shikhar Dhawan as the captain of the Punjab Kings. Although not the official captain, Curran skippered Punjab in many games in IPL 2023 and IPL 2024.
Therefore, the franchise can consider him as a long-term option, as well. He has the age and experience to do well for the franchise. Most importantly, he is an all-rounder and PBKS can retain him before the auctions.
3) Jos Buttler
Yes, you heard that right! If Rajasthan Royals retain a fourth player, they will have to spend INR 18 Cr on the player. The team would consider Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag as the future of the franchise. They are Indians and will be hard to get back at the auctions. Hence, Buttler could be released.
Although there is the RTM card, if Punjab really needs him, they can take him out of the reach of RR. As the captain, opener and keeper, he will be the ideal signing for Punjab.
