Cricketers coming from the same family is now not rare in the sport. Especially considering the history of the game, there are many instances of this. Interestingly, a few of the captains in the 2023 ODI World Cup also have relations who were or are popular cricketers. On that note, here, we take a look at three captains in the 2023 ODI World Cup whose relations are also cricketers.

1) Babar Azam – Umar Akmal and Kamran Akmal (Cousins)

Babar Azam is the cousin of Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal, who previously played for Pakistan. During their time, both these players were a crucial part of the side.

Cut to Babar, he is the skipper of the side and the most important batter, as well. Yes, he is struggling to do well in the ongoing campaign but if Pakistan needs to progress, they have to depend on him.

2) Tom Latham – Rod Latham (Father)

Tom Latham is one of the captains in the 2023 ODI World Cup whose relations are also cricketers. In the absence of Kane Williamson, it is Tom Latham who has led the side. In fact, Tom has led more games than Kane this year.

Tom’s father Rod Latham was also a cricketer. He played a few games for the Kiwis. Tom, though, has a more accomplished career. It won’t be a surprise if he gets appointed as the full-time captain soon.

3) Kane Williamson – Dane Cleaver (Cousin)

Not many know that Kane Williamson also has a relation who plays professional cricket. In fact, Dane Cleaver only recently made his debut for New Zealand and was also in the race to be in the ODI World Cup squad.

Kane has had a tough time with injuries in recent years. In his comeback game in the World Cup, a freak injury put him out of the side for a few more matches. He is set to recover soon and make a comeback.
