Irrespective of the result of the 2024 T20 World Cup, India is likely to have a new Head Coach. This coach will have a contract that will run until the 2027 T20 World Cup. It is a long-term vision and hence, BCCI must be careful in making the correct appointment. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three candidates who can become the next Head Coach of Team India after the 2024 T20 WC.
1) Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting would be the ideal long-term appointment for Team India. However, Ponting has many assignments across the globe, including for Delhi in the Indian Premier League. Hence, his appointment might not be that easy.
Ponting is a solid option because of the mentality and top strategies he brings to the table. The fact that he won several trophies as a captain adds to his case. Therefore, the former Australian cricketer is on this list.
2) Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra is one of the candidates who can become the next Head Coach of Team India after the 2024 T20 WC. As per reports, BCCI is interested in the services of Ashish Nehra as the Head Coach, especially after his success at Gujarat Titans.
However, it could be a tricky task as Ashish does not have experience in the ODIs and the Test format. Nevertheless, India also has an option of appointing different coaches for different formats of the game like England.
3) VVS Laxman
VVS Laxman has already coached India in recent times. He has been with the squad whenever Rahul Dravid was not available. Hence, he has a good chance of becoming the next Head Coach.
The issue with Laxman is that he does not have a strong CV in this regard. That said, even Ravi Shastri did not have but he became a good coach.
