KKR is likely to release Andre Russell before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. While the franchise will target to get him back via the RTM route, nothing is guaranteed once Andre’s name goes under the hammer. Surely, KKR must work on some of the alternatives whom they could target if Russell does not come in the price range for KKR. Here, we take a look at the list of three all-rounders KKR could have in mind as an alternative for Andre Russell.
1) Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone could be the more like-to-like replacement for Russell, at least, in the batting order. Since he can also add value with his spin, Livingstone will be a perfect alternative.
IPL is yet to see to the best of Liam Livingstone. If used well, he could turn out to be a jackpot for the franchise. Age-wise, as well, he fits the profile.
2) Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh is one of the all-rounders KKR could have in mind as an alternative for Andre Russell. A lot depends on whether Shreyas Iyer will remain with the franchise. If he is leaving, KKR could target Marsh as the No.3 batter and may be, even as the skipper of the unit.
Mitchell Marsh offers something different compared to Andre Russell. He is more of a top-order option and a choice in the middle overs with the ball. If KKR does not get back Phil Salt, Marsh could be the best option to partner with Sunil Narine at the top.
3) Romario Shepherd
The current Mumbai Indians cricketer does have the attributes to fill in the shoes of Andre Russell. Of course, he has to develop his batting further but the brute power is in there for Romario to do the job.
Although Russell is more experienced, with the ball, you could tell that Romario could add better value. However, he needs to be used well in specific situations and this could get the best out of the West Indian cricketer.
