Delhi Capitals usually employ a different strategy at the auctions compared to the other teams. While they are interested in their targets, they also have an eye on the budget of the other teams. Hence, we see them targeting a lot of players on the bidding table. That said, in the IPL 2024 Auctions, DC seemed to have fewer targets. While they got most of them, they had to miss out on a few of them. Here, we take a look at three players Delhi Capitals targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions.

1) Daryl Mitchell

After a solid Top 4, Delhi Capitals struggles in the batting department on paper. Especially after releasing Rovman Powell, the team had to sign a good middle-order batter. Hence, they went hard after Daryl Mitchell.

He would have been the ideal No.5 for DC. He has a good game against both spin and pace. The Kiwi also has decent experience. CSK signed him eventually. Delhi landed Harry Brook and Tristan Stubbs as the options for the middle-order.

2) Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav represented the Delhi Capitals a few years ago. However, it is not clear whey they were after him. The team already had Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar as options in the powerplay.

Nevertheless, the presence of Umesh could have helped Delhi use Anrich Nortje more in the middle and at the death. Now, the team is forced to open the bowling with Nortje and one of the Indian pacers to have more impact.

3) Spencer Johnson

Spencer Johnson is one of the players Delhi Capitals targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions. An upcoming pacer from Australia, Spencer was one of the surprise candidates to get a INR 10 crores bid. Gujarat Titans signed the cricketer.

Delhi also had him on the target list. He would have been the ideal backup for Nortje and could have also been a part of the playing XI if DC needed a stronger bowling attack.
