On Tuesday, the schedule for the Cricket World Cup 2023 was announced. While in 2011, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh together hosted the event along with India, in 2023, it will be in India alone. The games will be held across the country with the final happening at Ahmedabad. Some venues missed out on being a part of the event, although they got to host in the 2011 WC. On that note, here, we take a look at two venues that hosted some matches in the 2011 ODI WC but will not have any games in the 2023 ODI WC.

1) IS Bindra Stadium – Mohali

Mohali hosted some important games in the 2011 World Cup. The India vs Pakistan semi-final was played here. The game was won by India.

However, in recent times, this venue has lost some prominence. There have been complaints about the pitch and the stadium conditions, as well. It appears that these factors might have led to Mohali not being a part of ODI WC 2023. However, the city has a strong fanbase and they will have to consider themselves unlucky.

2) Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium – Nagpur

Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur is one of the venues that hosted some matches in the 2011 ODI WC but will not have any games in the 2023 ODI WC. Nagpur hosted some matches in the previous World Cup in India. There was an India game, as well.

It is not surprising that Nagpur will not host any matches in the upcoming World Cup. Not many games have happened here in recent times. Moreover, some other venues in India have attained popularity and they merit having the important matches.

Apart from these two venues, some other important cities such as Hyderabad and Guwahati have also lost out on World Cup matches. However, they will be home to a few warm-up games.
